Case: UK Client Inherits Chinese Real Property of Relocation
Our client Ms. Chen used to be a member of Longgang village in Shenzhen, Guangdong. In the 1990s, the whole family moved to the UK. In early 2000, Longgang started the relocation of villagers and their houses, and Ms. Chen entrusted her cousin, who was in domestic, to handle related issues.

Since there were a large number of houses in Longgang and relocation in a whole was quite complex, related procedures had not been finished until the end of 2020. Throughout this period, Ms. Chen never bothered about these issues.

In 2021, our client started to realize that something was going wrong when her cousin asked her, also other heirs, to sign a declaration of renunciation of inheritance.

Afterwards, Ms. Chen got to know that her cousin has finished the property rights registration by passing herself off as the owner.

According to the village committee, all the villagers and houses had been relocated, and the allocation of corresponding new houses had finished. Moreover, the publicity of ownership had been done. Throughout the process, in order to voice our demand, we kept contacting and communicating with the village committee, and talked to the representative of estate company face to face. Furthermore, we analyzed both merits and demerits of reconciliation and a law suit to them. In the end, through our efforts, the cousin of Ms. Chen asked for a settlement and compensated Ms. Chen for RMB 800,000.

Finally, two sides addressed this issue through an amicable way by reaching a settlement and Ms. Chen was satisfied with such a result.
